Useful Tool: TechLink RSS Feed

RSS feeds are a way to get announcements and the most up-to-date information on TechLink’s website delivered directly to you, without subjecting you to a barrage of unwanted email. Examples of information featured in our feeds include: notifications of patent uploads, licensing opportunities, featured technology summaries, and technology transfer news and success stories. Your privacy is ensured; we do not ask you to supply any information to receive our feeds. Read on for directions about the different ways to subscribe to this useful tool.

RSS feeds can be read or subscribed to in many different applications, including nearly all modern browsers (Firefox 2.0+, IE8, Opera 8.0+, etc), email clients (such as Microsoft Outlook), and even web applications (such as Google Reader). Below are instructions for some of the more popular ways to view RSS feeds:

Firefox 3.0+
1. Click the RSS icon in the upper right hand corner of TechLink’s site.
2. Select the Subscribe to this feed using “Live Bookmarks”
3. Click the Subscribe Now button.
4. Choose whether you want the feed to appear on your bookmarks toolbar or under the bookmarks menu.
5. If you chose for the feed to appear on your toolbar, you will see an option on your toolbar called “TechLink – Moving technology from minds to markets.” If you chose for the feed to appear in your bookmarks menu, click on bookmarks menu and you will see a similarly named folder. If you click on this a menu will pop out listing the 10 most recent articles put on TechLink’s site. You can click on any of these links to get to the full article.

Internet Explorer 8
1. Click the RSS icon in the upper right hand corner of TechLink’s site.
2. Select the “Subscribe to this feed” link near the top of the page that appears.
3. In the window that pops up, click the “Subscribe” button.
4. To view the feed, click on the Tools menu near the upper right corner of the IE8 window. Under the “Explorer Bars” area on this menu, click on “Feeds.” Alternatively you can access the Feed bar in IE by holding Ctrl, Shift, and “J” on your keyboard at the same time.
5. In the Feeds bar, you can select which Feed you want to display. Selecting TechLink – Moving technology from minds to markets will display TechLink’s RSS feed.

Microsoft Outlook 2007
1. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings
2. On the RSS Feeds tab, click New.
3. In the New RSS Feed dialog box, type in http://techlinkcenter.org/rss.xml.
4. Click Add
5. Click OK
6. An item in your Personal Folders called “TechLink – Moving technology from minds to markets” will appear under a folder called “RSS Feeds.” If you click on this item, it will list the 10 most recent articles featured on TechLink’s site.
