The US Navy seeks a partner to license and commercialize a portable device that simulates antenna operations to test signal processing and control devices such as transmitters and receivers
The US Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) has designed, patented, and fielded to the fleet an antenna system testing unit that simulates the presence and operation of single- and multi-antenna systems. The simulator mimics the presence of and signals from the desired antenna or array so test devices can determine if antenna control equipment is properly steering an antenna or correctly signaling transmission or receiving modes at the desired frequencies.
The simulator is small (approximately shoe box size), inexpensive to build, and simple to connect. The simulator provides signals that make the equipment being tested believe it is actually connected to a particular antenna or array. The simulator processes control signals from the control device under test and returns appropriate status word signals reflecting various antenna configurations. The simulation makes it possible to test the reading and writing characteristics of the signal processing control device to ensure proper operation over the range of steering, transmit/receive, and other control functions.
