NAVWIPE – an environmentally friendly solvent wipe

A solvent wipe that effectively cleans oils, hydraulic fluids, and grease, is noncorrosive to a variety of metal and nonmetal materials, and meets the strictest air quality standards in the US

Environmentally Friendly Wipe Solvent technology developed by the Navy

NAVWIPE is an odorless environmentally friendly parts cleaning solvent that applies with dry or pre-saturated wipes and meets the strictest performance and air quality standards.

The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division’s Materials Engineering Division in Patuxent River, Maryland, has developed a non-petroleum-based solvent wipe, NAVWIPE, which exceeds stringent low-volatile organic compound (VOC) and hazardous air pollutant (HAP)-free specifications of California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District, as well as the DoD’s own standard MIL-PRF-32295 “Cleaner, Non-Aqueous, Low-VOC, HAP-Free.”

NAVWIPE is the only composition which meets and exceeds MIL-PRF-32295 for Type III wipe cleaners, producing no VOCs and no residue, and is safe to use. Type III cleaners must also be compatible with metal and nonmetals, including plastics.

Current petroleum-based solvent wipes are widely used but have a strong odor and frequently contain HAPs and VOCs. When released into the air during the cleaning process, HAPs and VOCs contribute to the level of ground-level ozone (photochemical smog), which can damage lung tissue, cause respiratory illness, and damage vegetation.
